“Being aware and always making sure that children realise that there are choices is key. But also realising that your carefully ‘gender-neutral reared’ little girl going to nursery will suddenly turn into a pink princess and refuse to do anything that boys do and will insist on wearing tiaras and pink tutus etc – that’s an indication that they know they have to belong to a certain group and are picking up the messages from that group. So keep on fighting.”
