“I think it starts from the very beginning from parents. I had a unique experience as a person of colour, in an all-white town. Not everyone has that experience, but people can make a choice to have conversations with people. One of the exercises I have in the book is mindful listening. So really being with someone and hearing their story and sharing stories. That’s how we grow as communities that are more conscious and more mindful of each other’s backgrounds.”
