React with care

When someone shares the challenges they are facing with mental health it is important to respond with care. Reacting with care allows a positive relationship to form. Barriers will come down and you are more likely to receive a response.
This can include the following three strategies:
Be positive – focus on what the person can do, rather than what they can’t.
Work together and involve people in finding their own solutions as much as possible.
Allow the person to talk – the art of listening is an essential act of caring.
Next time someone shares a challenge they are experiencing at work consider applying these three strategies when responding.
