Build diversity of thought

People from different backgrounds and generations sometimes have vastly different perspectives but they may feel less comfortable speaking up – especially if their perspectives differ from the dominant way of thinking. Make it safe for people to share alternative perspectives by dedicating specific time in each meeting to play the devil’s advocate or address underlying assumptions. Embracing diverse thinking is useful in generating ideas and getting useful feedback while at the same time creating an environment where everyone feels relevant and part of a shared mission.
